Duties

Summary

You will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator in the Material Processing Section, Material Control Branch, Supply and Administrative Services Division of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

Responsibilities

  • You will deliver, store and pick up cylinders, lecture bottles containing compressed gases, and dewars containing cryogenic liquids, ensuring safe handling.
  • You will deliver and pick up material ordered through LABMIS, Small Purchase, Major Contracts and MILSTRIP and verify all material deliveries using electronic or paper signature.
  • You will operate motor vehicles including pick up trucks, panel trucks, sedans and station wagons with approximate gross vehicle weight up to 36,000 pounds.
  • You will operate fork lift trucks, lifting loads up to 20,000 pounds, to a height up to and in excess of 168 inches.

    This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Do the Work without Normal Supervision working indoor and outdoor in all climatic conditions operating motor vehicles (i.e. pickup trucks, panel trucks, sedans, and station wagons) with approximate gross vehicle weights up to 36,000 lbs., over public roads, private roads and on government property, throughout rural and urban areas at designated speeds. I have handled the controls for starting, stopping, backing, shifting and driving the vehicle; judging overpass clearances, turning radius, and braking distance from the preceding vehicle; loading, unloading, and overseeing the handling of hazardous material; reading road maps, determining the safest and shortest routes; understanding and applying safety rules and regulations. I have operated a forklift to move materials, capable of lifting loads up to and including 20,000 pounds, to a height up to and in excess of 168 inches. I have safely handled and delivered cryogenic liquids, compressed gases and other materials in accordance with basic safety and regulations. I have maintained trip records/logs, completed trip tickets and accident reports..
